6/6 Mustangs 30-Win Season Halted in Holt The Mustangs defense was led by junior starting pitcher Monty Porter, giving way to seniors Patrick Oppel, then Josh Folk. Senior shortstop Gerrit Rauch turned a couple of one-out double plays to retire the side, one featuring a ballettic pirouette to avoid contact with the base runner. Cinderella Battle Creek Lakeview upset Brighton 3-2 in the other regional semi-final match. Saline then went on to defeat Battle Creek Lakeview in the regional final, 8-0. Saline gave up only two hits in that game, advancing to the quarter-finals on Tuesday. I want to thank everyone who helped with this website however small, by contributing ideas, content, and/or encouragement, and especially Dave Clark and Bill Templeton for the game summaries. I also want to thank the baseball booster board members - past and present - for their untiring dedication and commitment to our young men. The Portage Central baseball experience has been a gold mine for me and my family, providing countless hours of entertainment, laughter and sometimes tears. Congratulations to all the Mustang baseball players at all levels and to their families, and to the coaches. You are ALL super-stars. -Bill Rauch

I would like to give a special thanks to the senior players and parents for their support and efforts over the past 4 years. Also to the players, for providing many great (and a few not so great) memories. For for me personally it has been a pleasure to have had the opportunity to watch and coach you. I wish all of you as much success off the field as you have had on the field. A Special quote for the seniors from the movie Caddyshack: So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my
way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the
Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell
them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama,
himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald...
striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He
hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a
ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you
know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we
finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama,
hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know."
And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on
your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin'
for me, which is nice.
